1. Logging In

[Note: Remember, the login credentials for Travefy are shared with other Heroes—please don’t change any account settings or preferences.]

2. Copying the Template

Begin every new guidebook by copying the template for your destination.

  • Select the Guidebook Templates folder on the left hand side of the window in the Trips view. Select the template you want to use and then click Copy on the right side.
  • Once the copy is made, you’ll see that the title of the copy is now “[Country] Template (COPY TO START) Copy.”
  • Click Edit to jump to the edit view of Travefy.

[Note: If you stop part way through building the guidebook and come back to it, I can find it again by selecting All Trips at the top left of window and searching by the title of the guidebook.]

3. Editing the Guidebook Title

  • Click on the title of the guidebook.
  • In the Trip Settings window, edit the Trip Name field.
  • Click Save Changes.

4. Adding Itinerary Day Sections

  • Click + New Day below the list of sections on the left.
  • Drag sections up or down to reorder.
  • Itinerary days should go in order below the Hero Note and Budget and Covid Info sections.
  • Rename the section by clicking the day title at the top when the section is highlighted.

4. Editing Itinerary Days

Follow the prompts to fill in all flights, lodging, meals and activities. Check out this excellent example of a finished guidebook created by one of our Heroes.

To add new events, click + New Event in the upper right corner of the itinerary and select the type of activity from the drop down menu. To reorder subsections, drag them or click Rearrange in the upper right corner.

All flights, lodging, meals and activities should contain a brief description (your opinions are welcome!) as well as "Jump to Map" Google map link, and website URL where applicable. In the description, make sure to mention why this was included, whether it was a traveler request or something that as a local you think is particularly special and worth it.

Each activity should be accompanied by at least one photo, which can be sourced from an image search on Google.

5. Editing Required Sections

The template includes sections for Hero Note and Budget, Covid Info, Pending Bookings, Maps, [Country] Info, Refer Friends, and an example itinerary day with instructions for how to fill in each subsection. Any section with (Edit) in the name should be edited, while [Country] Info and Refer Friends can be left as is.

Here is an example of a final guidebook for Mexico City, first as it looks in Travefy and then as it appears in the ViaHero app:

[Note: Make sure to delete the word (Edit) from the section name once it is completed.]
